OUR WORK HERE IS DONE

May 9, 2016

We just got back to our stateroom.  This was the last formal night, so the tux is packed away until the Alaska cruise.  I guess they do formal nights on an Alaska cruise.  Royal Caribbean is not as "old school" as Princess, so who knows?

I have called this blog "Our Work Here Is Done" because when we picked up the Princess Patter upon entering our stateroom, we learned that I do not have a talk scheduled.  I was originally supposed to do "The Spanish Main" tomorrow but there are some new things -- the chef and the matre d are doing something in my time zone, so we can sleep in.  And we may play bingo tomorrow.  We'll see.

I went to an aviation talk this afternoon.  This one done by the husband of the woman who does crafts.  It was an okay talk, but it was opposite the last Texas Hold 'Em tournament of the cruise.  After the talk, I stopped and watched the final 15 or 20 hands and wish I'd've played.  My very big ego aside, they didn't show me anything.  I stood behind the man who finished second and based on his cards, I think I would have done all right (I mentally bet as I would have for those cards).  But now we'll never know.  And I saved $30 by not entering.

The last three nights when we've returned to our cabin after the show we haven't had any ice and I've had to go up to the bar on Deck 5 and get it.  Our stateroom attendant was getting rather slack, working on not getting a big tip.  We had ice tonight.  Only two more nights, so I guess she's working on the tip again.  It may be too late.

I finished my Star Trek novel this morning.  Now I'm doing Sudoku while mom blogs and while I sit upon the throne and meditate.  I have books on several of my electronic devices, but you need to hold a paper book when you are meditating.  Next time I will bring a brand new one (I had started this one at 233, so it's my fault).

Finally, for this entry, I booked our tickets from LAX to home based on the recommendations of our agent and the cruise line.  Folks on board, both crew and guests are telling me I have booked rather close -- I left 4 hours from the time of docking to flight time.  So if you would, kindly say a prayer for travel mercies and favorable highways from the ship to the airport.  She Who Must Be Obeyed has said the next time we cruise when we are flying home, we are booking a hotel room and staying over night so we don't have this rush and uncertainty to get to the airport.  She will be obeyed.

And now, it's Bonnie's turn!

Well, it was not a good night at the dinner table. Well, let me go back to the beginning of the day. I went to bed last night not feeling well. Took some coracidin and still felt rough this morning. Got ready and went to breakfast. Not much. Had some frosted flakes and some cheese. I wanted to walk but it was freezing outside  (real gusty cold wind) so I needed my sweater. David went back to the room to get it for me. I went to deck 10 and walked 14 laps being blown by the wind on one side and buffed on the other. Cold but I enjoy just being in the air. After walking I went to get my crocheting and to the cabaret to wait for David's talk. He had a handout so I needed to be there at the beginning. I did my job and then went off to crafts to get my project started and headed back to the talk. I finished the craft mostly during the talk. I want to put some stuffing into the heart magnet we were making so I didn't completely finish it. I will do so when I get home.

Walking back from the talk we passed the shops and they had some nice men's shirts hanging outside the shops and David found a very nice gray tone one. Quite a nice shirt. We proceeded to the room and gathered the cards and headed to the buffet to play cards till time to eat.  This ship is small enough you can set in the buffet and lounge around. It is usually not overcrowded during lunch. They didn't have the menu out for supper because they were doing a souvenir menu and special formal dinner menu for tonight. So I ate a light lunch in hopes of a good meal at supper.  After lunch I was still tired so we returned to the cabin where I took a 2 hour nap. David went to the afternoon talk and when he got back he napped. Then when put on our best duds and headed to supper.

As I feared dinner was a bust. They had caviar on the menu and David was in hog heaven. They served a black, yellow and orange caviar. He loved it!! Licked the plate and help others at the table who  had ordered it finish theirs. There was a lot of sharing of foods at the table tonight. Hey, we like each other and share. I ordered a shrimp appetizer and with cocktail sauce they were good. I also ordered a cheese soufflé which was only fair. Ate a little of it. For my main course I did not select the lobster tails (they in pairs) nor the pheasant but the beef touranadeau which tasted terrible. Even David agreed it tasted bad. So I just ate the baked potato that I ordered extra. The beef came with mushroom gravy and asparagus which I did not like. Oh well. There is always tomorrow. I am sure I won't starve.

After dinner we had to wait to go into the cabaret because the captain was having one of his gold cards etc function. They finally let us in at 7:45 for the 8 pm show. We stood in line about 30 minutes. It was okay we got to see all the gaily dressed people as they exited, and then raced for a seat. Actually I walked but some did run to get that front row seat. The show was a comedian who was a Sammy Davis like performer. He was very good. He did a lot of different kinds of music and was funny too.

Well, we are in our pjs and I have made a drink, had some Pringles and are now finishing my blog (My blog?  My blog?  This is not her blog.  She is merely invited to write in it.  My blog? -- David).

Love you all.

Hey, Mac how was school? I hear all the girls missed you. Did you get a kiss? Hang in there only a few more days.
