Yes, dear readers, you read correctly. At tonight’s second gala dinner one of the offerings was Surf and Turf – lobster tail and filet mignon – and my beloved wife, the mother of my children, the grandmother of the 11, told Alexander, our waiter, that she wanted S&T, but no S. Something wrong with that, I think, because the lobster was very good. The FM was very tender as well. The cheese-truffles polenta, however, was not good, and we both pushed it aside and left it on our plates. We still had dessert.
Fabulous entertainer on the World Stage tonight. A female impressionist (not a female impersonator) by the name of Karen Grainger. What a voice! Hers and the ones she mimicked! We’ve seen shows where women do voice impressions, but never any as good as her. Cher, Barbara, Tina, Selene, Whitney, Lulu, and more. Mom told her after the show that she is the first person we’ve heard who did “To Sir With Love” (by Lulu), and told her that was our first date, going to see that movie. Yes, children they had movies back in those days, and no CGI. We could go to the Palace Theater in Frostburg for a dollar, get the movie ticket, a box of popcorn, a Pepsi, and ten cents change.
A lazy day at sea today. I did not have a talk, so with no time constraints we went to the Deli on Deck 10 and got Bronx Pizzas – pepperoni, sausage, and ham. It takes about 45 minutes to get one served because of all the folks who like pizza and only one place that makes them, so nothing having to be on the World Stage at 2 let us have our first pizza since Venice.
We were in the theater for the fleet captain’s talk about 150 years of Holland America history, but left early. Mom has her almost regular end of the cruise crud. Scratchy throat and feeling yucky. She was really feeling bad and so being the gentleman I am, I left with her to be sure she made it back to 1153. Actually, I nodded off somewhere in the first 20 minutes of his talk, and by the time we left he was only up to World War II with an hour to go.
Well, sick or not, she’s going to blog. So ...
TTFN
Well, my voice is way down at the bottom of the registry and scratchy. My itchy nose is better. Today was a day as usual heading west. We had turned the clocks back an hour so we are only 2 hours ahead. I woke at 6 and played on my phone till he was awake. We got ready and headed for breakfast. This morning I had a crepe with mixed berries. Unfortunately the only berry I got was blackberries and they are full of seeds. They got under me dentures. Haha!!
After breakfast we headed to deck three for some cards and just hanging out time. We went up stairs for our pizza after he went to the guest service desk to try and straighten out our bill. They now have fixed one thing but he has to go back tomorrow to get them to fix the rest. Oh Well!! They either charge us for stuff they are not supposed to charge for or don’t give us our discount. Hopefully they will get it right before we get off.
After our lunch we headed to the theater for the talk. This guy is boring!!! I really didn’t want to go but he did. So we went. He slept for the first half hour, off and on, and at the end of the first hour, I had had enough. So we worked our way out. There were people sitting two and three deep on the steps so it was a chore getting out. To top it off the Captain had found some nasty weather. It was pouring rain as we went into the theater and now we had big waves and still do have some nasty waves outside. I made it back to the cabin and slept for about an hour. I have started taking my cold and flu drugs and should be better before we have to fly home.
Supper was okay. The chicken and barley soup was hot and delicious. Just what you need it you are coming down with a cold. I should have had 2 bowls of soup and passed on the steak. The flourless chocolate cake was good. The steak not so much.
The show was great. The young lady had a beautiful voice in her own right but did great impressions. She made my day when she sang “To Sir With Love”. It is one of my favorites. I told her after the show how much I enjoyed it, but I told her standing away from her since I have the beginnings of a cold.
Well, we are in the room and I have taken some medicine and will go to bed shortly.
Hope you are all well. We are supposed to be in the Bermuda Triangle tomorrow about 10:30 our time. The Captain in his noon talk today said we should be on our best behavior tomorrow as we passed through there. Very funny.
Love you all, Mom, Granny and Bonnie
