REMEMBERING THOSE WHO SERVED

November 11, 2019

This morning at 11 o’clock the Captain came on with a word about Veterans’ Day, Armiscist Day, and Remembrance Day.  November 11 is all of those, depending on where you are in the world.  The treaty that ended World War I, the War to End All Wars – how did that one work out – was November 11, 1918.  He asked for a minute of silence to remember.   When I did my talk I echoed what the Captain had said and the audience gave another appreciation to those who have served.

I did my talk today on Admiral Sir Henry Morgan without my cruise buddy in attendance, only the 4th talk she’s missed in all of our sailings.  She is still feeling droopy and used the time to nap.  A good dinner tonight has perked her up.  Antibiotics have helped, too.

We skipped tonight’s performance at the World Stage because it was Postmodern Juke Box, episode 2.  Once was enough.  After dinner we stopped at the Lincoln Center Stage where the musicians were playing tunes from movies in a classical style.  They closed with the Cantina scene from Star Wars Episode IV.  You could watch in your mind’s eye as Han unstrapped his blaster and fired first.  And very good music.

Now back in the room we were watching Love It or List It (I don’t like the woman who does the remodeling) and now it’s blog time.  Next to the last one for this cruise.  And one more talk to rehearse before heading for the airport and 233.  Don’t forget Lyft by Matt, you are our ride home.

We have our onboard account straight now.  When we came on they did not have us in the computer as “service staff” – which is Holland America’s designation for folks like us.  I always carry a copy of my contract when we travel and they put us into the computer.  But they did not put in our onboard discounts nor the fact that our transportation to the airport was prepaid.  So back to Guest Relations yesterday and today to work with some very kind folks and now it is all set.  We are among the first ones off on Wednesday morning, since our flight is at noon.

Well, it’s time for the first run through of “Alexander Selkirk: The Real Robinson Crusoe,” so I’ll turn the keyboard over to Mom, Bonnie, and Granny.

TTFN

Well, we will only be one hour behind tomorrow. I have a scratchy low voice tonight. I have literally been in the room all day except to go our for meals. We did sit in on the end of the strings concert after supper for about 15 minutes.

Well, one more sea day and we will be coming home. This has really been a fabulous trip. We have had a great time. There really hasn’t been any bad thing. Not looking forward to the flying home. The last leg from Atlanta to Augusta is always the worse because it is a small plane and they give me a fit about my carry on.

Tomorrow we have to pack and we will need to weigh the suitcases. Didn’t buy a lot this time so we should be okay. We want to give our waiters a nice tip tomorrow. They have made our dining experience really nice. Alexander, our head waiter, is getting off in Ft Lauderdale and heading back to his wife in Indonesia. He said he has about 3 or 4 months off and they are going to try and make a baby. He is a super nice young man. He will have a much longer flight than we do. When he comes back he is going on the Westerdam which will be going to Alaska and South America.

No excitement today. I miss not hearing his talk though I did get to hear him practice. Tomorrow his talk is at his usual time of 2 and Jim’s is at 1. The Captain wants to have a Q&A time at 3. I don’t know that we will stay because we will need to pack. We will have to be up early Wednesday because we are getting off between 7:45 and 8.  That is good because the Ft Lauderdale airport is a busy one. After we get through security I will be fine. I am packing my coat because it is to be between 78 and 84 and even though Atlanta is going to be considerably colder I think my sweater will be enough.

Well, I am going to take my nighttime pills and play on my phone or do puzzles while he rehearses. Hope every body has a good day tomorrow.

Love to all, Mom, Granny and Bonnie
