Matt sent me a United States map that features, one in each state, the most oddly named towns in the whole U.S. of A.
He got me started by looking up the derivatives of a couple of them.
Scratch Ankle, AL got its name from the locals who were often seen by railroad workers scratching their ankles due to excessive mosquito bites.
The origin of Whynot, NCs name came from residents debating a title for their community. A man finally remarked, “Why not name the town Why Not and let’s go home?” They did.
Frankenstein, MO saw a post office established in 1893. The community most likely derives its name from Godfried Franken, a pioneer citizen said to have donated land to the town in 1890. It has no relationship to Mary Shelly’s book or creature.

👉 Have you started your Christmas shopping? My Smart Gadgets website has some suggestions, and of course they aren’t offering the ideas out of the goodness of their hearts – if you click on an item to buy, they get a cut. But that’s the way advertising works, so maybe you’ll want to check out one or two of these.
Kelvin17- the gadget that puts an entire toolbox in the palm of your hand. Kelvin17 can be used as hammer, liquid level, LED flashlight, measurement tape, screwdriver, and driver bits, Allen key and Torx bits set. And it’s only $24.99. If you want 36 tools in one device, it’s $59.99. And its crimson red, not blue.
Looking for an effective way to clean your oily gadget’s screen without scratching it? ScreenKlean’s secret is a patented carbon-based nanotech – the same technology used by NASA – that uses advanced physics to lift away stubborn dirt and grime without scratching or damaging your screen. Each cleaning that ScreenKlean does will restore the high-gloss, HD clarity your screen had the very first time you took it out of the box. No scratching. No messy sprays. No harsh chemicals. 👉 Today’s close, “It’s All About Jesus,” is by David McGee.
“He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30).
This saying was true for John the Baptist when speaking of Jesus and it is true for us today. As Christians, we should be learning about the Lord. What does the Lord want? What does He desire and how can I serve Him? Instead we often think: “What can God do for me?” We ask, “What can the church do for me?”
Focusing on the Lord, instead of ourselves will allow for forgiveness and healing. As we shift our gaze away from our needs and our wounds, we will experience the spiritual things of life – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control and the practical things of life. In that moment, unspeakable joy and peace beyond all understanding will be ours. Choose Jesus today!
Prayer:
Dear God,
Thank You for loving me so much You sent Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. Forgive me for times when I've lost focus and become self-absorbed. Empower me to let go of my own will and seek Yours. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
