QUARANTINE BLOG # 155

September 1, 2020

Does the “longest bus journey in the world” tickle your fancy?  For all you road trip fans, beginning in May 2021, you can spend 70 days in a luxury coach traveling from Delhi to London.  It’s the first hop-on, hop-off bus service covering the marathon journey from India to England and will cover 12,000 miles, 70 days, crossing 18 countries (I wonder if they need a special interest lecturer).

Adventures Overland is offering 20 people the chance to take part in this bus odyssey and it will cost roughly $20,000 per person https://bustolondon.in/.  It appears airfare to Delhi is extra.

The bus will depart from Delhi and drive across India before journeying into South East Asia through Myanmar, Thailand and Laos.  It will then head to China and next travel along the famed Silk Road, crossing into Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.  Russia is next with stops planned in Astrakhan, Volga and Moscow, as well as a day cruise on the Caspian Sea.

Finally, into Europe, passengers will take in Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland before heading to Prague, Frankfurt then Belgium.  After 68 days on the road, passengers will arrive in London for two days of sightseeing.

Included in the cost of the trip are all hotel stays, guides and fees related to visas, immigration, sightseeing and movement permits.  Planned meals and daily snacks and drinks are also included in the cost.  Hopefully you won’t be seated close to  travelers who have been there, done that, and keep up a running stream of unsolicited commentary.

**   Investing.com offers the following inventions as products that could only come from Japan.

A lot of people can’t put medication in their eyes.  Japanese eyedrop glasses are there to fix the problem.  The eyedrop glasses contain a funnel balanced on each of the lenses.  You put the medication into the funnel, keep your eye open, and it goes right into your eye without a problem.  $15-20.

The remote-control mop is a way to “mop without mopping.”  The manufacturer cautions against using the remote control mop for large cleaning projects, admitting that it is really only good for cleaning “small areas, spills, or small messes.”  Available on Amazon for $87.53 (although it’s rating is 2.5/5 stars).

When you hear “mini washing machine,” you might think of a small-ish contraption that you can use to wash clothes.  However, this is tabletop-size washing machine that is powered by a USB cord. You can use it to wash watches, glasses, and other tiny gadgets.  It runs for ten minutes at a time and retails for $47.

The Ambient Glasses Digital Eyewear connects the glasses to your iPhone or Android using Bluetooth.  The glasses use sound signals and LED lights to let you know if you have a message, meeting, or any other notification on your phone.  There is a tiny mini-speaker, and a total of six full-color LED lights.  $399.

Last one.  The Baby Cleaning Onesie doubles as a mop. Mop material is attached to the knees and arms of the outfit, so it cleans the floor while your baby crawls.  Invented in 1998 relaunched in 2012, the Baby Mop costs $40.  Getting free housework done is priceless.

**  TravelerMaster.com offers a variety of “Welcome Home” signs photographed in airports around the country.

**   Today’s closing is from “A Daily Word” with Dr. Ed Young.

There’s a move toward simplicity afoot.  Books and articles on paring down your lifestyle and streamlining your schedule abound.  But is it possible to simplify your beliefs about God?  How simple is a relationship with the living God?

A professor of theology and a professor of astronomy were seated next to each other at a university function.  They had little respect for one another’s respective fields of study, and were often at odds.  The astronomy professor turned to the professor of theology and said loudly enough for everyone at the table to hear, “You know, the whole concept of Christianity can be boiled down to the golden rule, can’t it?  Isn’t that all there is to it?”  The professor of theology nodded in agreement, and said, “I guess that's right.  Just like the precepts of astronomy can be summed up by saying, ‘Twinkle, twinkle, little star.’”

While complete knowledge of God is beyond our human comprehension, the Christian life is actually quite simple.  When a man makes up his mind that God is sovereign, that Jesus is his Savior, and that the Bible is his authority, life gets very simple indeed.  The closer he draws to God, the less confusing life is, while the farther he moves away from Him, the more complex his situation becomes.  When it comes to living the Christian life, less is more.  Keep it simple.

  1. Your comment on the Japanese gadgets reminded me of the "roomba" robot vacuums that the Macedonia ladies bought for the family center. As I recall, two were stolen or escaped from the buildings. Every time I drove from Thomson to Augusta I was scared to death that one would attack me on the highway.:-)

    1. Neither was ever recovered, nor did we ever turn up a clue as to who took them. And with all the things that could have been carried out of the FLC, that small theft was not as bad as it could have been.
