BLOG, THE FOURTH

November 14, 2018

Today for my afternoon talk it was so cold ... How cold was it?  If was so cold that Bonnie Belle, I’m always too hot, Sisler went back to our stateroom and got a sweater!  That’s how cold it was.  If I hadn’t known better I would have thought I was on Shoreline Drive or at Windtree Place.  Brrrrrr.  I had on a long sleeve shirt and a sweater and we are only hours away from Aruba where it is mid 80s all the time.  I’m looking forward to going to Aruba for the first time since the first time.  And we are going to be there from 930 in the morning until 900 at night.  Warm!!

We finished our second game of rummy and I am up 2-0.  We started our third game and I am up 255 to 105.  Maybe I can pitch a shut-out this cruise.

Unusual dinner companions this evening.  As I’ve told you, we sit at Table 120 which is a table for two.  Beside us is Table 118, also a table for two.  Next over and beside the window is Table 116, a table for four.  We were in our places when John and Michelle from Washington State came in (we just met them tonight).  A couple from Connecticut took the table by the window (I didn’t catch their names – so they will be Mr. C and Mrs. C).

Evidently the four of them knew each other from a previous seating and they were chatting away, sometimes loud and boisterous, but never offensive.  The funniest thing was Mr. C asking John a question and Michelle answering.  It happened frequently.  Finally Mr. C said, “John are you a ventriloquist.  Your lips never move, but sound comes out of Michelle’s mouth.”  It didn’t slow her down a bit.  She kept answering for her husband.  But I guess it is congenital.

We ordered first because John and Michelle hadn’t yet arrived.  Then they ordered at the same time as Mr. And Mrs. C.  We got our appetizers.  John and Michelle got their appetizers.  We got our main courses.  John and Michelle got their main courses.  We got our desserts.  John and Michelle got their desserts.  And Mr. And Mrs. C got several glasses of water.  Our waiter, Mohamed, apologized to the Cs who were much more patient than I think I would have been, and explained that there was a long line waiting to pick up food from the kitchen.  We wondered what the problem might have been because that is very irregular.  We left for the show and the Cs were still waiting for their food and talking to John and Michelle and Michelle was still answering for John.

The performer tonight was ventriloquist Phil Hughes.  And he was good.  Very funny.  We’ve seen several ventriloquists, but he was knew to us.  His funniest bit was bringing three people up on stage to be ventriloquist dummies.  The first he called Dick, the second was Jane, and the third was Spot.  He asked them what they did.  If you grew up on those beginning reading books you know the answer.  Run, Dick.  Run.  Run, Jane.  Run.  Run, Spot.  Run.  Maybe you had to be there, but we enjoyed it.

Well, that’s all the news for today.  Stay tuned for a boring report from Aruba tomorrow as I stand out in the heat and get warm.
