DODGING RAIN DROPS

August 27, 2017

No, that’s not thunder you hear, that’s Bonnie snoring. We have gotten up at 6:30 every morning so far so that I could rehearse my talks and this morning, get ready for the church service. And it has caught up with her.

We did not know if we were going to get to go off this morning because of a rain storm which came up while we were eating breakfast, but by the time we were ready to head to the gangway, the rain had stopped.  Actually, it stopped about 5 minutes after we bought rain ponchos – probably should have done it sooner.

We stayed in the Dock Yard area, shopping and sightseeing, finally returning to the ship an hour before all aboard. We had no sooner gotten through security and up the gang way when it started raining again. We appreciated staying dry.

I stopped Derek Floyd this evening and asked him if I could test his memory, back 25 years (he was our entertainer night before last, you remember). Bonnie and I think Cesar Brooks brought him to Maranatha while Derek was performing at PTL. He said he honestly did not remember it because of performing in so many churches during that 7 or 8 year stretch, but he graciously allowed, if we remembered it, he was there.

Tonight’s entertainer was Brad Cummings, a ventriloquist we have seen before.  He works with a puppet who is a gangster and another who is Rex, a baby dinosaur recently hatched from his egg.  The dinosaur, excuse me, Rex (who says he appeared in Jurassic Park) flirted with some women, and picked on one man, named Matt.  For the close of the show, Matt was brought up on stage and became the ventriloquist’s dummy.  It was hilarious.  A good show indeed.

There were a lot of “suits” in the dining room tonight.  The wait staff must be undergoing evaluations.  One of them stopped at our table and asked how we were enjoying our cruise and the dining experience.  We told him that our waiter (another Derek – they are not relation) was the best waiter we’ve had in all of our cruising.  Here’s hoping that those points help him move up.  He is good, indeed.  You would all like the way he interacts with Bonnie – one tidbit: two nights ago she asked for ketchup and he grabbed his chest feigning distress.  Big fun.  She got even last night when she told the French Onion soup was not good and made a face.  More big fun (yes, we are easily amused).

Well time to punch up “send” and see if I can claim my spot in the bed.
